Belize

Central America's only totally English-speaking country offers bargains in eco-tourism; beaches of Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker & Placencia, Maya ruins like Altun Ha & Caracol; & of course kick-ass diving/snorkeling (home to the famous "Blue Hole").

My experiences in Belize were nothing but great!!!  What a beautiful country.  I almost bought some land there, I still wish that I did, maybe another time.  I have a website http://Bescover.com which is a directory of Bed and Breakfast places around the US, please visit if you are coming.  We also have space for foreign destinations top be listed.

Our story on Belize music legend Andy Palacio:

GLOBAL CULTURE: Born in Belize, Andy Palacio was the Central American nation's most prominent artist and an activist for the Garínagu people (who are of Carib, Arawak and African descent). After working on Nicaragua's literacy campaign, Palacio returned home and became immersed in the punta rock movement, which blended traditional Afro-Caribbean sounds with influences ranging from jazz and R&B to rock 'n' roll. In 2004 he was appointed Belizean Cultural Ambassador and Deputy Administrator of the National Institute of Culture and History, and devoted himself to the preservation of Garifuna music and culture. In 2007 he formed Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective and recorded his masterpiece, Watina, which was named #1 of Amazon's "100 Greatest World Music Albums of All Time" List. Palacio died of a stroke in 2008, but his artistic legacy and sociopolitical influence live on in Belize.

One of the latest travel deals posted on our site (www.GreenGlobalTravel.com):

TRAVEL DEAL OF THE DAY: Let's face it, Belize is hot in more ways than one, and not especially well-known for being budget-friendly. But the folks at Slickrock Adventures are offering a nice 10% discount on all their Belize treks booked between now and August 31. We're digging their Belize Adventure Week package, which includes 8 nights of eco-resort lodging (some of it on their private island at Long Caye on Glover's Reef), all meals and transfers, kayaking, jungle hikes, exploring sacred Mayan caves, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and more. With the discount you save nearly $250 off their normal price of $2395! www.slickrock.com

Please visit AfricanDiasporaTourism.com, a web journal about culture and heritage tourism in places of the African Diaspora worldwide. Great personal travel article on Garifuna people of Belize. Let me know what you think and sign up for the mailing list to stay in the loop.
Thanks,
Kitty
