Namibia

Did you know that Germany had a colony in southern Africa? In neat, tranquil Windhoek you can still find beer halls & German-speakers. That plus spectacular scenery, wildlife, & local culture such as that of the San (bushmen) adds up to fascination.

I'm off to Nam next friday for a two week Env Edu. trip with 15 College students from the UK - should be an exciting time teaching them about Namibia's amazing desert adapted systems

If you're traveling in Namibia, you should include a stop at the Cheetah Conservation Fund headquarters near Otjiwarongo, in the shadow of the Waterberg Plateau. Dr. Laurie Marker has created a fascinating center where you'll see cheetahs being cared for and evidence of her influence in rescuing this elegant fast-vanishing creature. Go to http://www.cheetah.org to learn more.
