Steely grey mountain tops, soaring eagles, deep valley vistas, verdant chestnut trees, white villages, big sky, wild flowers & cactus, mountain goats, boars, black pigs & rabbits; these are some of the scenes of nature at its best to behold while staying at Hotel Bandolero. El Bandolero is a small, charming rural hotel and restaurant tucked away in one of the seven small white villages of the Upper Genal Valley in the Ronda Mountains in the greenest part of Andalusia.
Owners David and Ivan welcome you to their charming accommodation in the village of Júzcar in the Genal Valley where you can escape all the pressures and stress of urban life and return to nature. Experience the pace of traditional Spanish living while relaxing on the terrace, sampling local Ronda wines and tapas as you enjoy the marvellous views that the lush chestnut tree country of the Upper Genal Valley has to offer.
Energetic springtime visitors will get to view some of the 2,000 species of blossoming wild flowers in the pristine valley while on marked walks between the seven white villages of the Upper Genal Valley ("Alto Genal" in Castilian). Autumnal visitors will enjoy the changing colours of the chestnut trees while summertime visitors can swim & relax poolside at the hotel or participate in extreme outdoor adventures in and around the Genal River in Júzcar; for birdwatchers, there are many varieties of migrating birds year round throughout the Serrania de Ronda (Ronda mountains). For everyone all year, the mountaintops offer spectacular views, including all the way to Africa! We are also surrounded by four large natural parks splendidly full with nature, La Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve, Grazalema Natural Park, Los Alcornocales, Sierra Real Bermeja, all excellent locations for walking and bird watching. The European Commission has designated La Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve to be a destination of distinction and excellence (fantastic location for walking in nature).
Of course there is El Bandolero to discover. El Bandolero, constructed in a rustic style in 2001, offers tapas and creative cuisine along with the creature comforts of country living. The small hotel consists of eight spacious double rooms including two suites, a breakfast dining room, restaurant, bar and terrace, lounge, swimming pool and terrace, and has a WiFi hot spot gratis for hotel guests.
Six of the spacious double rooms have wood-burning stoves & terraces with stunning views of the valley and mountains. All rooms are decorated in a rustic style, have en-suite bathrooms and include coffee/tea facilities, televisions and central heating.
Sample the delicious cuisine of Chef Ivan Sastre Pascual, a Cordon Bleu trained chef with work experience in some fine London restaurants; sip a refreshing "tinto de verano" (red wine and lemonade over ice) on any one of El Bandolero's terraces, taste the tapas, relax and let the views carry you away.
Hotel Bandolero is perfectly situated for special holiday escapes due to the fantastic surrounding nature. The hotel offers theme holidays including painting workshops (featuring pastels, oils and water colours), walking holidays in the Genal Valley, La Sierra de las Nieves and throughout the Serrania de Ronda, guided bird watching holidays and accommodation, extreme outdoor adventure packages, wine tasting weekends featuring locally produced Ronda wines and relaxation package to comfort & pamper you. There are also theme weekends sponsored by the village hall which include a conference on wild mushrooms in November and a springtime weekend on the history of the Valley.
Hotel Bandolero is also very well situated to visit other popular locations in Andalusia such as Marbella and the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar, Tarifa, Jerez de la Frontera, Seville, Granada and many white villages in Seville, Malaga and Cadiz provinces.
Hotel Bandolero also welcomes groups for one-off special events able to accommodate up to 50 people. Please have a look at Theme Holiday pages for more information about current holiday package offerings and / or our Restaurant & Menu pages to obtain more information about what La Bodega del Bandolero can offer you.
All of this is available here, in the tiny, charming white village of Juzcar in the Genal Valley. A beautiful location with stunning views of the greenest part of Andalusia, green with nature the year round, a charming rural hotel offering peace and tranquillity and finally, a warm welcome from local residents, all very near Ronda but far enough away to feel like a different world of peace and quiet.

Júzcar is situated in the Alto del Genal, which is in the Serrania de Ronda region, extending from the Jarastepar peak, at 1,425 metres above sea level, to the coastal municipalities of Estepona and Benahavís.
The landscape is varied in this large municipality, from the rocky terrain of the northern Sierra del Oreganal to the pine and chestnut woods of the lower Sierra Bermeja mountain range. There are small mountains of pine and oak…

The quiet and restful Genal Valley has a history that goes back hundreds of years. It is located in La Serranía de Ronda (the Ronda Mountains) just to the south of the bustling white village of Ronda, near the Mediterranean coast in southern Spain.
The Genal Valley is sandwiched happily between two national parks, La Sierra de las Nieves and Grazalema, and it is commonly acknowledged as the greenest part of…

Hi, David!
Hola from Los Angeles~!
I am coming to Spain for a last minute project May 1, and traveling to Seville May 4 by Renfe to cover the festival. Unfortunately, our hotel reservation got messed up and I now need to find a hotel open to hosting journalists (as I work on a fixed budget and am a freelance writer/editor on three assignments with three magazines). I noticed you are in the Mountains of Malaga, which I read is a couple hours from Seville. Since all the hotels we looked at in city center are booked for the festival, could you possibly recommend:
Nice hotels outside the city center (i.e. residential sections of Seville, or suburbs accessible by bus)
Small towns near Saville located on the RENFE train route or a short bus ride from the city center?
You can check out my materials and tear sheets at ElyseGlickman.com...any guidance would be appreciated. The tourism board here in L.A. has been helpful in the past, but they have more limits as to how much they can assist journalists than they did back in 2004 when I first worked with them. Rest assured, they are nice people, and quite instrumental in helping me establish my travel writing career many years ago.
All the best,
Elyse Glickman
