Jordan's Splendor: 6 Nights - 7 Days

 

Itinerary 

Day 1: Amman Airport – Amman Hotel

Upon arrival to Queen Alia Airport our representative will meet and assist you through the customs and immigration procedures. Transfer to the hotel in Amman for overnight.

Day 2: Umm Qais – Jerash – Ajloun – Amman Hotel (B)

Early morning we drive two hours from Amman to Gadara (Umm Qais), which belonged to the famous decapolis, a union of 10 cities, founded by Alexander the Great. Here you have an overwhelming view over the north Jordan Valley, the Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. We leave to Jerash, the best example of a Roman provincial city in the whole Middle East. Visit Oval Plaza, Roman colonnaded street, the Nymphaeum and the Temple of Artemis. Next stop is Ajloun the great 12th century Islamic castle built around 1184/85 by the famous Islamic leader Salah al-Din. Overnight Amman hotel.

Day 3: 3 Desert Castles – Amman Hotel (B)

Today starts our tour to the Desert Castles in eastern Jordan. We visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Amra Castle with its zodiac dome and the early examples of Omayyad fresco paintings. Moreover you view the fortress-like mysterious Qasr Kharanah and the black basalt Roman/Medieval Islamic fort at Azraq. Overnight Amman hotel.

Day 4: Madaba – Mt. Nebo – King's Way – Kerak – Petra Hotel (B)

After breakfast we depart to Mt. Nebo. This is the place where Moses gazed at the promised land before he died and believed to be his burial place. You visit the old monastery, overlook the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and parts of the Holy Land. We proceed to Madaba, to view the famous mosaic 6th century map of Palestine in St. George's church. Afterward we drive to Kerak along the famous ancient biblical caravan route the King's Way. We have a short stop in Wadi Al-Mujib, a great wide valley with magnificent geological formation. Visit in Kerak the famous Crusader castle built in 1132/34 by King Baldwin I. of Jerusalem. Continue to Petra for overnight.

Day 5: Petra Visit – Petra Hotel (B)

Visit the red rose city Petra, the biggest attraction of Jordan. Petra was first established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and founded a commercial empire. You can start the trip on horse back or by foot to the canyon, the so called Siq, and then walk to the most beautiful monument: the Treasury, from here to the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh's Castle. Time on your own. Overnight in Petra.

Day 6: Wadi Rum jeep tour – Amman Hotel (B)

In the morning we drive 1.5 hours southwards to the protected area of Wadi Rum, one of the most impressing desert landscapes in the world. Here still Bedouins live in a traditional way, and by 4x4 Jeep tour you discover canyons, sand dunes and Nabatean rock inscriptions. Then drive back to the capital Amman, overnight at hotel.

Day 7: Amman Hotel – Amman Airport (B)

Breakfast, latest check out 12:00 noon, dependent from your departure time transfer to Amman Airport to say farewell and board your flight.

Hi Thanks for Friending me. I did enjoy my trip to Petra a few moths after it opened back in the 90's I  did mention it and my visit to Waddi Rum, in a a cover story I wrote for Adventure Journal, about Dahab in the Ehyptian Sinai, and I  got the cover shot and a slew of photos sprinkled in my story.

Always available for a jumket. You get more bang for your bucj as I am a killer-hot art photogrpaher and  wonderful travel writer, too.  philtarley@earthlink.net to read my stories
