Tips for Tokyo

Tokyo has a lot of great sights and most of the tourist sights are covered pretty well in the guide books.I'll try to add my recommendations and also add some budget tricks that I didn't find listed in the guidebooks.

The National Museum,Tsukiji Fish Market and Auction, the Metroploitan Government Building are big tourist sights ,but still well worth seeing. The auction is still great with the tour.I walked there in the morning. A Frommers pick,The Rikugien Garden is also very…

How To Buy The Best Airfares To France For 2013

XL Airways has had some amazing prices for summer travel this year. I wrote a thread on how to find and purchase those fares. It really has been a maze the last few years to buy tickets with that airline, but it's worth it.I bought a fare from JFK-Marseilles rt ,total with taxes, for $580rt for June travel.

How To Pay For Travel If You're Poor

I know a lot of financial experts say to skip travel if you're poor.I totally disagree with that.Travel can open the door to business ideas and jobs.It also acts as a strong motivation to make more money. The very planning and saving for trips can lead to different opportunities. If you have kids, travel opens their eyes to careers they haven't thought of and colleges they might like to attend in the future. On top of all that, planning of trips brings happiness and of course travel…

Problems with Hotel Booking Engine Agoda.com and How They Were Fixed

I've been a big fan of Priceline and especially their company Booking.com.I assumed since Agoda was owned by Priceline too, it would be good as well.

Agoda is based in Asia, but now they list hotels all over the world like the other booking sites.

I recently booked two hotels in the EWR area of Newark NJ.First because they were a little cheaper and second because I wanted to get some more experience with them, since I'm going to travel in Asia more in the coming years and… Continue

Visiting New York City While Staying in Newark, New Jersey

I stayed at the Best Western Robert Treat hotel and did the commute by Path to WTC and also New Jersey Transit train Penn to Penn station. The Path trains run all night and the New Jersey transit trains stop at 1am.I was really amazed how fast and cheap those connections are.

What I noticed is the hotel was full of European budget travelers doing the same exact thing. The hotels offer free shuttle service from EWR and to Penn Station, Newark around the clock,so people don't need to… Continue

A Trip to Manchester, England

I won a  free trip to Manchester through Virgin Vacations and Visit Manchester. They really were wonderful.I also have looked at Virgin Vacation's prices and they are good even if I had to pay.Visit Manchester has been great and really does a good job of promoting their city. It's good to see people proud of their city and welcoming.

I really was  impressed with…

Funny ways people have gotten frequent flyer miles.

American Airlines is celebrating their 30th Anniversary of their frequent flyer program.I have been enjoying hearing all the crazy ways people have earned miles over the years on the various tv shows. The funniest one is from a man who started a company just to fly 20 Thai people back and forth on a $8 flight,so he could earn 4000000 miles. The local DEA ask…

Cheap Flights to Europe: My 9 Top Web Sites

1.Airfarewatchdog- They have been good at finding out some of the bargain flights to Europe. They don't list a lot of flights, but those they do are generally pretty cheap. Check the daily blog also.

2.Momondo- Still the best of the Airfare search sites, but they do have some problems as well. They check a lot of sources though ,so they are worth a look. They price one way fares at reasonable rates

3. Iberia- has had some great sales recently, under $300rt, and I've noticed… Continue

My Observations of the Japan Quake

I just wanted to post some things I saw during the quake. I was near Asakusa station in Tokyo waiting for my son. We were going to visit Nikko for the weekend. I was in a building on the first floor. After I felt the quake , I exited the building and waited in the middle of the street with others. Being from California, we are told to stay put or get under a desk or doorway during a quake. In Japan, it seems like everybody wants to be outside during a quake. Right or wrong, thats what I did.…
