Biggest Gay Party Ever Seen in Buenos Aires: Gay Pride Parade 2010

Starting at the Plaza de Mayo, home to the presidential palace, Casa Rosada (Pink House) today at 18h00 the march will follow the majestic Avenida de Mayo to Argentina’s most important democratic institution, Palacio del Congreso, an imposing domed architectural masterpiece whose steps symbolise the Andes and extravagant fountains represent the Atlantic Ocean. The march, inspired by the Stonewall Riots of 1969, has both purpose and meaning to the gay community of Buenos Aires. Gay Pride a time to reflect on the gay community’s human rights successes and challenge the inequality between rights accorded heterosexual couples, but not their gay counterparts. The march challenges discrimination and bigotry and seeks to break down the barriers that say ‘us and them.’

Best of all (what a relief), the Buenos Aires gay community will demonstrate with flair, colour, goodwill and a contagious sense of fun. The streets will awaken to the colours of the gay rainbow flag and floats will pump music and deliver spectacle and performers ranging from the wonderfully talented to the downright grotesque.

Buenos Aires Gay Pride welcomes all, of any creed, of any colour, of any persuasion, or any religion. Gay Pride is a declaration, ‘we are gay, and we are out and proud.'
