If you’re in the process of planning a visit to the historic town of Creswick, in Victoria state 129 km north of Melbourne, you might be wondering about some of the local attractions and things to do. With lush forest on all sides and history dating back to the 17th century, you’ll find that the town has plenty of natural attractions for visitors to enjoy. There are plenty of other things to see and do in Creswick, some of which we have outlined in the list below:

Walking

There are a few walks throughout the area, but the Goldfields Track is particularly recommended. It’s 210 km long, passing through many of central Victoria’s oldest towns and landscapes. The track is suitable for hikers and mountain bikers alike – just do a portion during your stay.

Gold Mining

The area is steeped with gold history, so there are plenty of related attractions and places to visit. The New Australasian No. 2 Deep Lead Gold Mine is open to the public, and the Creswick Museum and Gold Battery is also worth a visit if you’re interested.

Relaxation

If rest and relaxation is more your thing, you should head to one of the local day spas. Prani Glow Day Space specialises in Thai-fusion massage, facials and full body treatments that are designed to nurture the body and heal the mind. You’ll never want to leave!

Animals

If you’re a lover of furry creatures, there are plenty of ways to indulge during your stay. Check out the Creswick Woollen Mills, which is home to a tourism exhibition and resident alpacas. Or pay a visit to the Callambene Pony Stud, where a small stud of well-socialized ponies can be found.

Markets

If you happen to be in town over the weekend, it pays to visit one of the local markets. The Creswick Bazaar is held on the third weekend on the month (Saturday and Sunday), whereas the Creswick Market is held on the third Saturday of every month.

Fishing

With so many rivers and reservoirs in the local area, if you enjoy fishing you’ll have a few spots to try (including the Newlyn Reservoir). There are also some lakes (such as St George’s Lake) that are stocked with trout, or you can visit one of the local trout farms.

Art

If you’re an art lover, you’ll love browsing all of the galleries in the area for that new piece for your collection. Some of the local studios include Lyn Cooke, who does original paintings of Australian wildlife, and Albert Art, which is the studio of Doug Bosher.

And we’ve only scraped the surface of attractions and things to do.

No matter how long you’re planning to stay in Creswick, there are so many local attractions and things to do that you’ll never be bored. Whether you’re travelling with your significant other, family or friends, there is sure to be something that appeals to you all. If you can’t think of anything else to do, we recommend paying a visit to the Visitor’s Centre, which is open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm.
