Shimla has another name as Simla. As soon as we hear Shimla, first thing flashing our minds is the hills and the white snow. Shimla is located on the rim of the Himalayan slope. It is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Back in about the 18th centuary Shimla was a dense forest. Only one civilisation called the Jakhoo temple and houses were rarely present. This placed was once under the Nepalians.

 It was taken over by the Britishers after the Gurkha war in 1814 – 1816. As British rule in India brought many modernizations, Shimla was also a place where the Bristishers brought lot of changes. Based on the climatic conditions and lovely natural scenic beauty the Britishers used this place as their summer capital.

Also the troops after the war used to relax in Shimla. As a result of the weather and natural beauty many hills resorts were put up in Shimla. This became a blessing to the people of Shimla generating highest income from tourism industry.

 Slowly the Bristishers even started planning business and taking important political decisions in this place. As the civilization was improving many industries and universities were set up. It has quality educational centres. Shimla gains to have good heritage building till date. Shimla did not stop with education, architecture etc…. It also has good hospitals. Most of the heritage buildings are converted as resorts today.

This became lovely city with all infrastructure set and was made the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Also it is noticed that many eminent people were born in this land like writers, political leaders, actors etc….

Transportation

Shimla is also well connected in terms of transportation. It has its own airport called the Jubbarhatti airport placed around 23 kms from Shimla. Railway lines are also well linked. Shimla has a lovely toy train which was inaugurated by the Viceroy of India. Most of the vacationers will not afford to lose this enjoyable drive. And especially the honeymooners love it.

 During peak seasons the frequency of trains is increased so that all tourists enjoy this drive. This is one the interesting part of the tour packages planned by travelers. Buses are also available. Hence one has all types of transport means to avail in Shimla. This serves to be helpful for vacation planners.
