Myrtle Beach: what to do with a 9-year-old? And do I need a car?

I'm staying in Central Myrtle Beach for a week. Do I need a car? And what's there to do with a 9-year-old besides the beach? Any and all recommendations welcome!

Hey there! My name is Laura Hildenbrandt and I am here in Myrtle Beach.  There is SO MUCH to do here, however, what time of year are you coming....that makes a difference.  When you say Central Myrtle Beach....what avenue specifically.  Your 9 year old will love Broadway at the Beach, Family Kingdom and Nascar speedpark, all within minutes of the beach and centrally located.  There are over 2000 restaurants here so if that is appealing, I would definitely rent a car.  Also, Murrells Inlet and Pawley's Island are both awesome Low Country places just south of Myrtle Beach where you can find Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens.  If any of that is interesting, then definitely have a car.  Let me know if you have any other questions!
There are numerous things to do with a 9 year old.  When you say central Myrtle Beach, I am not certain which location you are referring to.  Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, etc. all part of the Grand Strand, which is about 60 miles long - you would need a car if you want to get around to all the attractions. --- there are numerous thing to do for any age, including 9 year olds  - water parks, mini-golf, aquariums just to name a few.  I am including a link to a site with additional info for kids.  http://www.myrtlebeachkidsstuff.com/
