Seeking upscale hotels in Granada, Nicaragua

As a favor to a friend, I am looking for upscale, but not necessarily luxury, chain hotels in Granada.

Would like to have access to public transportation and local sites of the city.

Any recommendations?

Hi there,
There are no chain hotels in Granada (thankfully) the more upscale ones in the city itself are Hotel Bocona or Hotel Plaza Colon which I'd say was more like what your friend is looking for. The most luxury, sustainable and secluded hotel still within easy reach of the city (and they will organise all of your transport) is Jicaro Island Ecolodge (www.jicarolodge.com) which is on the Conde Nast 2010 Hot List and is managed by an award winning company who also manage  a few similar upscale places in Costa Rica (therefore a chain?!)

I just had a couple staying with me who was at Jicaro Lodge in Granada and loved it..They could not say enough good things about the hotel,the staff,the food..everything was the best..If they want "Upscale"..this is the place..
