I'm looking to fish for some Peacock Bass in the canal of Miami is famous for. Only problem is I only have one day of time to do this. Would like some recommendation as where I could go and fish from the shore of any canal or lakes. Thanks.

You will require Florida freshwater fishing license especially when going to Miami Canal, which is available at bait shops and sporting goods stores across the state.

Anyhow, for catching largemouth and peacock bass I think you should use live minnows and night-crawlers, they are always effective.

Hi Zach!

Do you mean the canal along the Tamiami Trail in the Everglades? And also, will you bring your own fishing equipment or will you need a guide?

Maria

I'm not sure what you mean by the Everglades. But I'm looking at the canal that runs from the Blue Lagoon just south of the airport going toward west and south. Just like to see where I could go and spend few hours fishing from the shore. Yes, I will have my FL fishing license and my own equipment. I don't need any guide right now, I won't have that much time. And yes, I will look out for the alligator. Thanks.

Zach

There is a park there called Antonio Maceo park with a boat ramp: 5135 NW 7th St. I tried calling now but got an answering machine:  (305) 960-2930

Not sure if the shore is open or if there is a dock for fishing (in case you're not trailering a boat).  I would call them to inquire first.

There are numerous boat ramps along the Tamiami Trail and areas where you can fish from shore or small bridge/structure.  You just go west on 8th street.

I hope that helps!

Yes, I'm familiar with the Antonio Maceo Park by the airport. I think I will check out the Tamiami Trail along 8th Street, this is near The Gator Park. Thanks for the suggestion.
