Calling all Cruiseline companies and Cruise Travel Writers

 Hello. I am a travel writer (specialising in cruises, islands, luxury travel, arts and culture) and am currently researching a new book, Great Boat Journeys of the World. I am editor and lead writer. It will be published in Summer 2012, UK publication with co publishers in Europe and US.

 

I have selected around 35 classic and unique, inspiring, aspirational cruise experiences, travelling by small, intimate, luxury ships, expedition vessels, river boats and masted sailing yachts, with destinations and itineraries from the Amazon to Asia,  Maine coastline to Mississippi,  Seychelles to South Pacific, Vienna to Vietnam.  A draft selection of great cruise itineraries is attached.

 

I have arranged a dozen or so press trips already with many of the world's leading cruise companies some fantastic voyages of discovery which will be featured in the book accompanied by lavish illustrations. These cruise features will aim to entice readers to pack their bags to sail away for a year and a day...

 

I would be pleased to hear from a wide range of Cruise lines and companies with suggestions and offers of press trips cruises.  I need to plan several great boat journeys  - the Amazon, Mississippi, Alaska, Northern Europe, Croatian islands, Africa, SE Asia, Yangtze river, Kimberley coastline Australia.  

 

And Cruise Travel Writers!  Have you recently experienced a truly Great Boat Journey or are you free to take a cruise this year and contribute a cruise chapter. ? 

 

This is a very exciting project and I would appreciate all the assistance to research and plan and experience these Great Boat Journeys to include in this book.

I have only done one "big ship" cruise. However, I have sailed on four tall ships (one has since sunk) and done three self-skippered trips (cabin cruisers in Norther Ireland and France and a narrow boat in England).

Interesting assignment. I specialize in writing narrative non-fiction travel though I have written smaller more commercial articles, too. I always like a writing challenge and writing about a serious cruise sounds like pithy good  fun . I have sailed up the Nile on a Felluca- a traditional wooden sailboat for nine people. I have also cruised the Carribean  with my mother.  I have never taken an exotic trip like the ones you are offering - I am up for it.  I am also a professional photographer. So I can supply compelling images as well as an evocative story.  I will try and attach a few stories and supply you with a few links of articles I have written that also have slide shows I have shot. I can write about anything with any voice , or point of view. I suppose you will comp all travel expenses. What kind of writing and photo fees are you paying on top of that?

I'm a freelance writer and blogger who specializes in active travel for baby boomers. I have sailed over 200 nights on Regent, recently added Seabourn Sojourn (my 3rd Atlantic crossing) to my list of cruises and will sail through the Panama Canal on a holiday cruise this December on SilverSea Shadow. I've cruised from LA to Hong Kong with lovely stops in French Polynesia and then around the southern portion of Australia to Bali and on to Hong Kong. Another favorite cruise was the journey from Vancouver to Singapore. Yes, I can say that I've been to Dutch Harbor, as well as Siberia, Japan China, Viet Nam and Thailand. And another favorite cruise saw me crossing the Atlantic, the southern Atlantic from Cape Town to Rio. And then there was that Norway cruise that traveled above the Arctic Circle.

Your project is, indeed, exciting. I have been writing about cruising since the mid-1970s when the first Carnival ship found itself in The Bahamas out of Ft. Lauderdale. Since then, I have been invited on one line or another at least once nearly every year since my first time. As a result, I have lived some incredible experiences that have been shared -- and are for the sharing.

I just got back from Peru... and a trip aboard the Delphin II riverboat -- a luxurious Amazon cruise. I'm also heading to Chile this October to do another high-end cruise with Cruceros Australis through the Beagle Channel along the Patagonian coast and Tierra del Fuego. Both a great fit with what you've outlined and shown in your mock-up. I have plenty of words/photos I can contribute on these two trips. Thanks, barb
