My son and his new bride plan to drive from Delhi to Mumbai and then to Goa, spending about two weeks total in India. Any great suggestions or connections for them?. They like active adventure as well as sight-seeing, but they are already stretching their budget just getting there.

I've yet to get to India myself, so I'm no help with suggestions.

First timers to India tend to hit three cluster of regions/activities.

  1. Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra jaipur.
  2. Kulu, Manali & Dharamsala
  3. Goa, Kerala

Assuming they are going to Goa for raves and R&R (say a few days), then in the remainder of time left, They could cover Agra, then go to Jaipur, Stop off at Pushkar, Udaipur, detour to Mt. Abu, Ghandinagar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai.

From there to Murud, Mahableshwar, and onwards to Goa.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions Anil.  I'll definitely pass them on to him.

hi there! In India now...my suggestion would be the following:

Delhi

Agra (1 day, just to see the Taj Majal)

Jaipur

Ajmer (Pushkar is what you want to see there...small, quaint town)

Jodhpur

Udaipur

(the road between Udaipur and Mumbai is not very good and there's not too much between the two; they should look into a direct train or flying which can be very cheap--kingfisher, jet airways are the two best airlines*)

Mumbai

*If they have only 2 weeks, they should actually consider taking the train everywhere, instead of driving. It's VERY inexpensive (especially if you do the 3rd class compartments, which are perfectly fine) and much faster than driving (the roads can be a bit hellish).

I have tips for Delhi, Agra and a few of the other places on my blog, http://www.wanderista.com

Good luck!!
