I'll be in Paris in early June and would like recommendations of hotels within walking distance of noted attractions. Can be American-based as I have loyalty cards from several major chains--or locally owned.
I'll be there during the French Open tennis tournament and would like to avoid the area around Roland Garros--unless you know a way I can get cheap tickets!

Beverly, can you give us an idea of price range? As you know, that is a big factor. Merci!
I know hotels won't be cheap, so we're probably looking at the equivalent of 3 or 4 stars (private bath). I don't know exactly what to expect but I'm guessing between $150 and $300 per night. Does that help?
One of my perennial favorites is the Hotel St. Merry, in the Marais near Les Halles and the Pompidou Center (the Louvre is also fairly close). It's got a charming historic boutique vibe (it's actually part of an old church and was converted from a presbytery) and runs 130-190 euros for a double.

Thanks, David. Doesn't seem to be availability on the days I need. But it looks like a charming place.
Hi Beverly: I lived in southern France for a year and often travelled up to Paris. My regular cheap hotel room source was booking.com. I usually paid between 50-60 Euros a night, and always with private bathroom. I just did a check for June rooms and there are definitely rooms available in that price range, in any area of the city you like. I always choose a different arrondissement (department) so I could experience a new part of that amazing city, and regularly took buses and trains and walked miles (of course). Helped that I never worried about fancy, just clean; figured I wouldn't be spending much time in the room anyway! Have a wonderful trip.
Joyce, you're right that we probably won't spend much time in the room.
Hey Beverly,
Have you ever heard of the Hotel Prince Monceau? It was recently renovated and is under $150 a night and is really centrally located (10 minutes from the Champs Elysees and l'Arc de Triomphe, 10 minutes from Palais des congrès "Porte maillot", 10 minutes from Moulin Rouge and the Sacré-Coeur, 5 minutes from Parc Monceau). Happy Travels! :)

Good one to check out. Thanks, Jessica.
Beverly, this hotel always gets good reviews from travelers I know: http://www.hotel-paris-familia.com/
Thanks, Julie. So many options.
Hi Beverly,
I am having a torrid love affair with Paris at the moment, and every time I go in a little deeper, but as a newbie one of the places I stayed was the Hotel Diana in the 5th, couldn't be closer to all the biggies, and there is a great little place to grab a cafe downstairs and watch the students on the way to The Sorbonne, which is right there. 2*, small, but clean and charming, and holds your reservation on your word. Really. Here is the Trip Advisor review also, since the Hotel Diana website is not that exciting...I am happy to help you with any other Paris related questions. Bring your most comfortable shoes, you will be walking your ass off.
Bon Voyage!
Loretta
