I've got an assistant who is planning to honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica this August. Her preference is an all-inclusive resort and I'd like some recommendations for her. They aren't looking for the cheapest and certainly not the most expensive, but they do want something comfortable, clean and fun. Her husband-to-be enjoys deep sea or surf fishing and golf. She would like a nice spa experience, some shopping and maybe a city tour.

Any recommendations from those with first-hand experience would be appreciated.

Hi Doug - How are you?

We are a Travel Management Company of 40 years with 60 Travel Professionals (over 25 yrs in industry).

I spoke with our Jamaica specialist and she would be happy to provide you with an all-inclusive resort and other information.

This would be a quote/proposal - no obligation on your part or your assistant.

We need to know the exact dates, the city they would be flying from and the budget so we can match them up with the best value resort. We have excellent relations with all of our partners and we are members of Ensemble so when someone books with us at any budget level - we are able to offer some VIP services.

You can email me at lisacohen@groupeideal.ca with the details.

You can visit our Blog to bet a better feeling of what we are about as well as our website both noted below.

Coupla months ago when I was in Boston I was talking with someone who stayed at an allinclusive in Negril but it wasn't one of the Sandals or Breezes. They stayed at an indpendent called Sunset At The Palms  and said it was less hectic and classier than the other allinclusives. Don't know if they have golf or deepsea fishing but maybe arrange it for guests.

David, I've heard good things about Sunset, too, but like you, I haven't actually been there.

Doug, there was a review of Beaches Negril on this site, but here's another "but:" Although people do go there for honeymoons, I would recommend a Sandals instead of Beaches in the large-resort category, because it's really, exclusively for adults. Another option in Negril is The Caves, a Chris Blackwell Island Outpost hotel. I love Outpost hotels, but they're not for everyone, because they attract more of an urban hipster/reggae/yoga crowd than a fishing/golfing crowd.

There is hardly a city worthwhile in the parish where Negril is. However, there are a couple of shopping plazas. For stay one could check out  Riu Palace (not Club Riu)  which is decent. Negril beach is a long few miles of uninterrupted beach. If one does not venture out of the safe confines of the All-inclusive resort, then negril is pretty nice place; however once in the public beach, you can expect (depending on location) aggressive selling of trinkets and soft drugs. I think the beaches and properties on the other side of Ocho Rios to be better.
