Used to go bonefishing off Key West. Good times. Problem with wanting west views is that much of the west is park and navy base, that's why people view sunset off pier. Also coast hotels with clear view of sunset cost more than inland. The Hyatt gives you views to the west, but it's a colorless expensive place. Atlantic Shores, which used to be a gay place (don't know if it still is) has more reasonable rates. Casa Marina and The Reach are best. Casa is especially $$$$. But you're going in November, and November can be cheap everywhere. Might as well inquire about Casa Marina.
Curious to know where you end up going, but you will like it.
Hi David!
Thanks for the recommendations - that's funny, because those are the two hotels that we liked the best, but changed our minds since some reviews said there wasn't a view of the sunset. But we don't have to be at our hotel to watch it, so I'm going to move forward on the Casa Marina and the Reach. Both are gorgeous and seem to have the same amenities. Thanks a million!!

Are you set on a resort per se? If you're not going to stay on the water anyway, I personally would rather stay in one of the restored Victorian guesthouses. There are so many beautiful, incredibly romantic places to stay! But perhaps you want a more full-service experience, which is perfectly valid, of course. No matter where you stay, you will have a great time. I love Key West!
Hi Schoen! I just stayed at the Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa and the sunset was spectacular ... Below are two pictures I took while having dinner at the resort's restaurant, dining on the veranda. Unretouched, I promise! It was more peaceful than the whole Mallory Square scene, if that's what you're into. You don't have to stay at the Hyatt to enjoy the sunset. You can have a drink at the bar or splurge on dinner.

I'd be interested in knowing where you ended up staying. Happy travels!

Thanks Maria! Will do!!!

Hi again, Schoen! I forgot to mention that the Hyatt has a buy 4 get 1 free night special on-going until the end of the year, with a room upgrade and free breakfast for two. You have to use the code FALL10 when you call reservations and prices start at $305/night double occupancy.

I don't work for Hyatt, but I just did a press trip there and I did honestly enjoy the property. David is right in that it might appear "colorless" but it is actually a welcome respite from the craziness and noise of Duval Street, which is just about three blocks away and a total barrage on the senses when you really get into the pub crawls. The Hyatt is a spa environment so it's pretty peaceful.

In any case, I'm sure you will have a wonderful time ... I am a native South Floridian and I don't spend as much time in the Keys as I'd like to! You know, we can get spoiled being surrounded by water everywhere. My recent trip there made me fall in love with the destination all over again. Enjoy and I look forward to your updates!
