Argentina - what cities & places would you recommend? Also Uruguay?

I am off to Argentina for a 16 night stay next February. I made plans to go to Iguazu and Salta already, any other places you would recommend? I see Patagonia as a separate trip.

Is it worth going to Montevideo and Playa del Este for a couple of days?

Go to wine countryside - Mendosa, Five hours from Buenos Aires, is Mar Del Plata. Since you are passing off on Terra del Fugo, I'd say take a a bus trip to Cataratas/Iguassu from Buenos Aires.

Montevideo (Uruguay) and Playa del Este (Havana) both are beautiful and worthy to visit. Both have beautiful beaches, heritage and culture. IMO if you have enough money and then it is good to visit both destinations but keep in mind that flight time between Montevideo (Uruguay) and Playa del Este (Havana) is 8 ½ hours i.e. distance is 4,180 miles. So Plan tour trip wisely.

Moreover I advise you to visit Ushuaia, the place where most trips to Antarctica starts from here.

Montevideo and Punta del Este (I think that is what you are trying to refer to?) are both great options, and easy to get to by ferry from Buenos Aires......................

I also recommend Colonia del Sacramento, a truly lovely colonial town founded by the Portuguese, right across the river from Buenos Aires; you can take a hydrofoil, and it's well worth the trip.

Punta del Este is v glitzy and def worth a visit. But if you want something a little more rustic, I'd suggest Punta del Diablo near the Brazilian border. Also Jose Ignacio is wonderful too. Parador La Huella restaurant and bar is a must if you go to Jose Ignacio.
