Hello!
My husband is a huge WWII history buff, especially the European theatre. I'm starting my research of taking a really good WWII tour for a trip in summer 2012. Any suggestions for reputable, guided WWII tour companies/itineraries? Any cruises that offer relevant shore excursions/mini-tours? I'd rather take a cruise myself (unpack only once!) and if we can combine both in one trip that would nice. This will be his first trip to europe so I'd very much want to plan it out to go smoothly and come away with an amazing experience for him. Looking at 2 to 3 weeks duration, mid-price range. We're in our forties so I don't want to be stuck in a slow moving bus tour.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Be sure to check out the National WWII Museum's web site for great travel programs. http://www.nationalww2museum.org/travel/ and http://www.nationalww2museum.org/travel/request-a-travel-brochure.html

2012 tour dates haven't yet been posted, but the Victory in Europe tour -- June 1 – 8, 2011 -- will give you an overview of what to expect; there's also the Battle of the Bulge tour: (back by popular demand!) June 8 – 15, 2011.

The National World War II Museum is committed to bringing the history of World War II to life. The exclusive Five Star Tours are planned by experts in the field of World War II history and travel. We believe that there is no better way to connect with history than to hear the story of the participations in their own words and to walk in their footsteps. The Museum’s Five Star Tours program began in 2004 with the first Victory in Europe tour commemorating the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion aboard one of the Silver Sea’s luxury liners. Since then, we continue to create a variety of exciting travel packages focusing on World War II history that combines exciting educational experiences, exclusive behind the scenes access to sites and venues, renowned historians, WWII veterans, and first class accommodations.

I have a partner who does make miracles happen. It's his specialty and I've leaned not to do things which Larry can do so much better than I.

Please contact Larry David c/o travel@manstouch.com.

Do say Karen Fawcett referred you because he gives http://www.bonjourparis.com readers a tiny discount.

Best and please let me know how it goes.
Hello,
Since 1995 we are Tour Operators arranging tours to the Czech Republic and since 2000 we are exclusive tour operators for Veterans of the 16th Armored division who liberated Pilsen, Czech Republic in May 1945.
This year in May, we celebrated the 65th Anniversary of liberation and the end of WW II with group of vets and their relatives and friends. For next year we have scheduled tour to celebrate again. We stay in Pilsen in 4* hotel together with grandson of General George S. Patton with whom we are in touch during the year. There are many activities happening during the celebrations. You are welcome to visit our web site: www.czechtours.cz to see our itinerary. As a reference and information from this year tour I'm copying the letter we received from one of our member:
Dear Peter - I want to thank you so much for the spectacular trip to the Czech Republic that you put together for us last May. You did everything possible to make everything run smoothly. It was far beyond my expectations. The honoring our World War II. vets was the biggest surprise & also very heart warming. Sometimes we are led to believe our European allies have completely forgotten what we did, but not true at least in the Czech Republic. Seeing the part of the country that we covered so completely was wonderful as that is where my ancestors came from. I found it to be a beautiful country with very friendly people. Also thank you so much for the wonderful disc of pictures. Such a keepsake. The people on our trip were just great. I would truly recommend your trip to anyone wanting to visit the Czech Republic. Thanks again. Sincerely Jean Thomas / NE

Hello!

We do offer cruises between Paris & Normandy that include shore excursions to the WWII landing beaches and sites...

Very nice way to do it indeed as it is an all inclusive vacation.

http://www.francecruises.com/river347-Paris.html

For those who want a more comprehensive tour, we can even do it with a private local guide, either from Paris or from the cruise in Rouen or locally, using Bayeux as a base for 2 days or so.

Feel free to contact me and we can discuss it further...

Best regards,

Jean
Holts Battlefield Tours - some of which are cruise-friendly - have been going longest and have great reputation.
http://www.holts.co.uk/
London's Imperial War museum is excellent - but cruise-unfriendly
http://www.iwm.org.uk/
- as is the Dutch: http://www.euronet.nl/users/wilfried/ww2/museum.htm
Extremely cruise-friendly - in Tuscany, near La Spezia and Leghorn - is Italian Resistance Museum at Fosdinovo:
