My son's August 2012 trip to Austria, Czech, Romania, and Turkey

My son and a friend are traveling from New Jersey to Vienna, Austria and branching out from there

for about a month in August 2012. The last stop should be Istanbul where they will fly back home

from. My questions are:  Where is the best place to look for reasonable airfare? He plans on staying in hostels, any suggestions about that? Also, I'm sure he has researched it but should this require a visa? Thank you!

The easy first: No visa required except Visa of Arrival (or rather pay $$ at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul) for Turkey.

Hostelworld.com Hostelbookers.com are some of the sites. July August is peak vacation season, so expect fares to be high. kayak, hipmunk, momondo and opodo.co.uk are some of the popular search engines for airfares. You could also use airfarewatchdog.com. Finally I check farecompare.com.

Thanks for the tips but what do you pay $$ for at Ataturk Airport in Turkey??

I think it was USD20 for a single entry 3 month visa

Hey Sheryll, My name is Jessica and I'm a travel writer as well as a rep for inBed.me, a social hostel booking company that would allow your son and his friend to actually see who will be at their hostels before they book and connect with them to plan trips and get tips (they can also ask about the Visas). I wanted to give you some links to some of my favorite hostels in these places:

Vienna: Traditional but budget-friendly Pension in a good location: http://book.inbed.me/vienna-austria/quisisana/

Prague: Funky, very social, centrally located: http://book.inbed.me/prague-czech-republic/177227/

Istanbul: Colorful, fun hostel located in a 19th century historical building: http://book.inbed.me/istanbul/177367/

Let me know if you have any other questions. My email is jessica@inbed.me
